Hero For Christ | Christopher Sunami![]() photo courtesy Keels Photography Updated 12/29/06 Christopher "Kitoba" Sunami is a philosopher of social change from Columbus. He is also a writer, educator, immersive poet, musician and composer. He is a graduate of Columbus Alternative High School ('93), Swarthmore College ('97), and the Ohio State University ('99). He is currently enrolled in the Philosophy Department at Ohio University. He is thirty-two years old, of black (African-American) and Japanese descent. He lives in Columbus (OH) along with his wife, artist April Sunami, cat, Diego, and is the proud father of a newborn baby son! He is the director of Youth Ministries at the United Methodist Church for All People, and the coordinator of the All People Open Mic & Talent Competition. He describes himself as a "Christian Existential Humanist", which he explains as follows: I am Christian because I believe in the primary importance of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.He is the author of the children's book "How the Fisherman Tricked the Genie" (Atheneum 2002), the philosophical work "Three Ways of Being Human" (Happenstance 2000), and the forthcoming religious work "Hero For Christ" (Happenstance/Kitoba 2008). He is an alumnus of the Mountain TOP ('92) and Legacy International ('92) summer programs, as well as the Kalamazoo College Study Abroad program in Kenya ('95-'96). He was a member of the AmeriCorps pilot program "Summer of Service" in 1993, serving with City Year in Boston; and a long-time staff member of the "Triple S Camp" in Sugar Grove, Ohio. He is an alumnus member of the Dragon Phoenix Wushu (Chinese contemporary Martial Arts) Team at the Ohio State University, and previously studied Hung-Ga Southern-Shaolin-style kung-fu. He is a founding member of the Columbus Philosophers' Meetup. His other interests include chaos theory, reconstructivism and aesthetics. You can contact him at admin AT kitoba DOT com.
