The Day and Hour

Matthew 25:13 (Luke 12:40, see also Matthew 24:42-44)

Be watchful, for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of man will come.

Luke 17:35-36 (Matthew 24:40-41)

I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed; one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women will be grinding at the same mill; one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the same field; one shall be taken, and the other left.

Matthew 26:36-45 (Mark 14:32-41, Luke 22:39-46)

Then Jesus came to a place called Gethsemane, and said to his disciples: “Sit here while I go and pray over there.”

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be mournful and full of sorrow. Then he said to them: “My soul is mournful to the point of death. Wait here, and watch with me.”

And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying: “O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not my will, but as yours be done.”

And he came to the disciples, and found them asleep, and said to Peter: “What, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that you do not enter give way to temptation: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

He went away again the second time, and prayed: “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me unless I drink it, then let your will be done.”

And he came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. Then he came to his disciples, and said: “Sleep on now, and take your rest. Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.”
