Hero For Christ ![]() Barack Obama | Questions and TemptationsMatthew 4:1-11 (Luke 4:1-13) Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. He fasted there for forty days and forty night, and became hungry. There the adversary came to him and said: If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread. But Jesus answered: It is written that Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Then the adversary took him to Jerusalem and set him on a tower of the Temple, and said: If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down, for it is written: He shall make his angels watch over you, and in their hands they will hold you up, so that you might not so much as dash your foot against a stone. Jesus replied: It is written again, you shall not tempt the Lord your God. Again, the devil took him up onto a high mountain, and showed him the kingdoms of the world in all their glory, and said: All these things I will give you if you fall down and worship me. Then Jesus replied: Get you behind me, Satan, for it is written: You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve. And when the temptations were finished, the devil left Jesus, and angels came and ministered unto him. Mark 11:27-33 (Matthew 21:23-37, Luke 20:3-8) They came again to Jerusalem, and as Jesus was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the religious scholars, and the elders said to him: By what authority do you do these things? Who gave you the authority to do these things? Jesus answered: I will also ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying: If we say from heaven, he will say then why didnt you believe him? But if we say, from men then we need to fear the people, for the people believed John to be a prophet of God. They answered: We cannot tell you. And Jesus said: Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. Mark 12:14 (Matthew 22:16-22, Luke 20:21-26) When they came, they said to him: Master, we know you are true, and are influenced by no man, for you care nothing for the status of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Therefore tell us, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their trickery said: Why do you tempt me? Bring me a coin to see. When they brought it, he said: Whose picture and inscription are on this coin? And they said: Caesars. And he answered: Then give Caesar what belongs to him, and to God what belongs to God. And they were amazed by his answer. ![]() Top ![]() Back ![]() Next |
